Invented in the mid 1990's by BCF Technology, initially designed to fit other bovine ultrasound machines and was a straight rod.
The curve radius in the introducer was developed in 2003 with our Australian and New Zealand distributor for use with the Easi-Scan.
CURVE RADIUS
The exact radius of the curve was created and tested with experienced veterinarians, one veterinarian scans over 80,000 cows per year.
The curve was introduced to obtain better contact and scan angle of uterus, angling the probe to almost look back while still at a shallow enough angle to enter the rectum.
The curve of the introducer is all about the anatomy of the cow, by using this slight curve designed to go with the cow's anatomy you will always have the right angle to insert your probe.
BENEFITS
Rigid
Will stay at the correct angle and won't bend while scanning.
Lessens strain on practitioner and animal.
Inserting the probe rectally without using your arm, the introducer prevents your arm from getting tired and sore during long sessions, letting you keep scanning for longer.
The introducer is only 1.2 inches in diameter, much smaller than the arm of an average practitioner causing less stress on the animal.
Faster
Easier to enter and exit the cow than your arm so it will improve speed of scanning.
Aids scan movement
The curve aids scan movement because when rotated the introducer scan head changes plane angles due to the curve. With our curve the image angle changes enough to ensure the uterus is covered in both transverse and longitudinal planes.
If straight then you are rotating in same line of sight.
If too curved then the plane angle changes too much.
